Heritage Expedition

The Cultural Triangle in depth. Sigiriya at dawn, Anuradhapura’s ancient sacred city and Polonnaruwa’s open air museum of stone kings. The turquoise coast of Pasikudah to rest and reflect. Sri Lanka’s history told at its own pace.

This journey is for those who want to go deeper into the island’s ancient story, not just to see the monuments but to understand their enduring meaning. The Cultural Triangle holds three of the great archaeological sites of Asia. There is Sigiriya, the fifth-century palace fortress built by a king who chose a rock for his throne. In Anuradhapura, the first great capital, the dagobas and sacred Bo tree have been tended continuously for over two thousand years. Polonnaruwa, the medieval capital, remains remarkably intact with stone Buddhas and palaces sitting beneath wide dry zone skies.

Kandy provides the cultural counterpoint. The Temple of the Tooth and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens offer a different perspective, with the possibility of witnessing the Kandyan dance as evening falls. The story might then drift east to Pasikudah, where the shallow turquoise bay and long, calm shore offer the perfect unhurried contrast to the intensity of the ancient cities. Best enjoyed between July and October when the east coast is at its most inviting and every element is tailored entirely to your dates, your preferred depth of interest and your own time.
